MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Martinsburg police were called to the aid of a man who had been shot multiple times early Wednesday morning.
The victim was found in the 400 Block of West Race Street, but the shooting likely happened on Raleigh Street.

Martinsburg Police Chief Erin Gibbons says they do not believe the public is at risk:

Chief Gibbons said officers found a man suffering multiple gunshot wounds and immediately began providing lifesaving assistance.
The unidentified man was taken to an area hospital where he was last reportedly listed in stable condition.

Chief Gibbons says Race Street was likely not where the man was shot:

The Martinsburg Police Department has been collaborating closely with the West Virginia State Police to thoroughly
document the area, according to Chief Gibbons:

This incident is under active investigation by the Martinsburg Police Department. Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked to contact detectives at the
Martinsburg Police Department at (304) 264-2100 or the Berkeley County Crime Solvers at 304-264-4999.

A press release regarding the incident says, “The Martinsburg Police Department wishes to extend its gratitude to the Martinsburg
Fire Department, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, West Virginia State Police, and
the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force for their invaluable
assistance with this investigation.”
