MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Saying Valentine’s Day is the halfway point for the candidacy filing period in the city of Martinsburg,
a social media post is reminding aspiring office holders of some deadlines.
“This Valentine’s Day, 2024, marks the halfway point of the City of Martinsburg election filing period, which extends through Wednesday, February 28,” the post reads.
For any candidates who intend to file in the last 10 days of the filing period, it is highly suggested that you gather at least 50% more signatures on the petition than the 25 (50 for mayor) required.
All signatures must be verified as those of voters registered in the City of Martinsburg, and in the case of Ward councilmembers, voters of that ward.
Those signatures that cannot be verified cannot be counted. The petitions must be submitted, in full and complete, by 4 PM on Wednesday, February 28. If the required number of signatures are not submitted by that time, a candidate cannot be placed on the ballot.
If you have questions, or need help, don’t hesitate to reach out to the City Recorder’s office at 304-264-2131 ext 273, or check our elections information page at www.cityofmartinsburg.org
