MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Council held its regular weekly meeting Thursday.  The Panhandle News Network’s Al Gaige brought some updates.

Thursday’s Berkeley County Commission meeting consisted mostly of budget presentations from organizations and county departments. Tim Czaja, Community Corrections Director explains how his department saves the county tax-payer dollars:

The department is asking for the same amount as last year. The Commission also heard budget requests from the county facilities department, Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival, CASA of the Eastern Panhandle, Region Nine, Chief Court Marshal,  the Emergency Services Department, and Main Street Martinsburg, as well as new Martinsburg/Berkeley County Parks and Recreation Director Joe Burton:

The department is is also asking for capital improvement money, which isn’t included in budget request.

Jack Laing, county facilities director, explained some of the projects they’ve been working on.

The Berkeley County Commission held a retirement ceremony Thursday. Captain Hagman:

K-9 Braum is retiring after serving for eight years with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Rob Blair also recognized Dennis Jenkins, as the 2023 Deputy of the year.
