A number of local law enforcement and community volunteers worked to find him. The Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department reports Mr. Gilbert’s body was found in a “wooded area of heavy underbrush, not far from his home.”

Friday’s announcement says “It does not appear that any foul play is suspected in his death. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Gilbert’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Morgan County Sheriff KC Bohrer praised the outpouring of support from the community. “Sadly we didn’t get the outcome we had hoped for last week but once again law enforcement, first responders and the community comes together in times of need. Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department, Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, Frederick County VA Sheriff’s Department and the WV State Police, Paw Paw VFD and many others worked tirelessly this week to locate a missing person in the Woodrow region of Morgan/ Hampshire Counties. Thank you very much to the Paw Paw Community and businesses who supported these efforts.”
