BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — A Martinsburg man has been found guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter in the 2022 stabbing death of a Berkeley Springs man.

Morgan County Prosecuting Attorney Dan James says Gabriel J. Cardwell of Martinsburg was found guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter Friday in a Morgan County courtroom.

Cardwell had been charged in the September 5th, 2022 stabbing death of Scott Mullen of Berkeley Springs.

The trial got underway December 5th and wrapped up December 8th.

Prosecutor James says the jury deliberated an hour and a half before rendering its verdict.

September 5th of 2022, Morgan County Sheriff KC Bohrer said his officers were dispatched to the 9000 block of Winchester Grade Road for a stabbing.

They were flagged down by a large group of people. A subject, identified as Cardwell, was found wearing blood covered clothing. He had a knife in his possession.
The man on the ground was identified as 47-year-old Scott Allen Mullen. He was reportedly suffering from multiple stab wounds and despite EMS care died at the scene.

The defendant is back in the Eastern Regional Jail awaiting a February 22nd sentencing next year.
