HAGERSTOWN, MD — A Hagerstown father is under arrest and a second child removed from the home after police say a child starved to death under the man’s care.

On Tuesday, November 28 officers from the Hagerstown Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of N. Locust St. in Hagerstown for a report of an unresponsive 6-year-old juvenile male.

HPD says “Upon arrival, officers discovered that the 6-year-old was deceased. It was determined that the child was suffering from severe malnutrition and starvation. Subsequent investigation revealed that the juvenile’s father, Andre Derek Ford, failed to provide proper care and medical treatment to the child.”

A second child, a five-year-old boy was removed from the residence and was last reportedly under medical treatment.

An arrest warrant was obtained and served on Andre Derek Ford (1/13/92) and he is currently charged with

The press release from the HPD says further charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and results of the autopsy.
