WASHINGTON, DC– A Charles Town company is one of two beneficiaries in the state of a USDA Rural Development energy grant. The other is WVU.
On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, announced $500,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development program for West Virginia University and Partner Community Capital. The funding is made possible through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and will provide technical assistance to small businesses to advance energy efficiency improvements.
$250,000 will go to Partner Community Capital in Charles Town. According to Senator Manchin’s office, that funding will allow Partner Community Capital to provide forty small businesses with REAP technical assistance services, including developing energy assessments and applying for grants.
The other half went to West Virginia University to provide forty small businesses with REAP technical assistance services, including developing energy assessments and energy audits.
According to the company’s Website, Partner Community Capital (PCAP) aims to “help small businesses get the capital and other resources they need but can’t access. We deliver flexible, empowering loans to borrowers in under-resourced communities. And, we connect clients to strategic advisory services so they can make the best use of our capital. As a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) we focus on locally owned, environmentally responsible small businesses because they employ and build wealth for entrepreneurs, their families, and their communities. PCAP currently lends in North Carolina and West Virginia.”
