After a brief stint at Division 2 Concord University, David Walker is set to return to Martinsburg High School as Head Football Coach.

Walker began his tenure at CU on December 23, 2019, just weeks after leading Martinsburg High School to a fourth consecutive Class AAA state championship.

Concord played just one game in Walker’s first season due to COVID. After a 4-6 season in 2021, Walker led the Mountain Lions to a 9-2 season in 2022. CU narrowly missed out on an NCAA postseason berth. Concord finished third in Division II in total offense (485.6 yards per game) and eighth in scoring offense (39.5 points per game).

Walker led Martinsburg to eight Class AAA state championships in a ten-year span from 2010-2019. He won his last 56 games as head coach of the Bulldogs. Walker owns 304 career victories at the high school level after starting out as the head coach at East Hardy. In 2020, Cobourn Field was also named David M. Walker Stadium.

Walker’s former top assistant coach Britt Sherman took the reins of the Bulldog program in 2020. He resigned from that post last month after posting a 28-5 record with a state championship in 2021.

Sherman will remain on the Bulldog staff as the team’s offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator.
