SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.VA. — Those in the Panhandle are familiar with Shepherd University Athletics and the incredible atmosphere at Rams Stadium on Saturdays in the fall. One thing that is missing from Rams Stadium, which you’ll find at almost any high school or college stadium, is a video scoreboard.
Vice President of Athletics at Shepherd University, Chauncey Winbush, joined Panhandle Sports Live! Wednesday morning.
When talking about the naming of this potential video scoreboard, Winbush, along with Shepherd University Administration, knew just who to dedicate the project to.
Al and Sara Lueck have been Eastern Panhandle fixtures and both graduated from Shepherd University in 1967. Al was a former member of the Shepherd Football Coaching Staff, and they both would regularly be heard cheering on the Rams during the football season. In 2003 Al and Sara were awarded the Hall of Fame Medallion and in 2013 both were named Alumni of the Year by the Shepherd University Alumni Association. Sara Lueck passed away on April 13.

The big question for Rams fans is where will the new video scoreboard be placed. With the Kenneth J. Boone Field House being a possible landing spot, Winbush thinks he knows where the best spots could be.
The Shepherd University Athletic Department is currently undergoing a fundraiser to get the project up and running. Currently, the Athletic Department has raised $130,000 with their goal being 300,000. More information can be found on the Shepherd Athletic Club website.
