MARTINSBURG, W.Va– The second day at the state tournament in Oatesdale Park did not bear as much fruit for eastern panhandle teams.
Shinnston 2-0 Martinsburg
Shinnston pitchers Ando LeBake and Jacob Watts combined to hold Martinsburg hitters to just 1 hit and 1 walk in their 2-0 victory.
LeBake drove in the games first run in the top of the 3rd, singling to right field.
Martinsburg attempted to move a runner into scoring position in the 5th but they were caught stealing to end the inning. Mason Line had Martinsburg’s only hit.
Shinnston tacked on another in the top of the 6th. Aspen Dyer reached base on her second double of the game and came around to score on a throwing error in the field.
Martinsburg falls to the loser’s bracket and will play Elkins at 10 am tomorrow. Game times for Sunday have been moved up due to inclement weather.
Ona-Milton 5-0 Jefferson
Ona-Milton scored their first after the bases were loaded by Jefferson starter Jacob Hutchinson who walked in a run.
The next 2 runs were scored in dramatic fashion as Shull hit a 2 run Home run that nearly cleared the tree line in right-center to make it 3-0 after 4.
Ona-Milton also tacked on 2 runs in the top of the 5th after multiple errors in the field by Jefferson.
Jefferson stranded 2 in the bottom of the 5th. Ona-Milton starter Brady Ballou struck out Andy Roberts for the final out, reaching his pitch limit, completing his 5 shut out innings of Martinsburg.
Logan Shaw struck out 3 after allowing a double in the bottom of the 6th inning to seal victory for Ona-Milton.
Jefferson plays tomorrow against Chapmanville at 10 am.
