HAGERSTOWN, MD — An accident Monday afternoon on I-81 in snowy conditions claimed the life of a woman.
The Maryland State Police/Hagerstown Barracks report it happened just before 2 in the afternoon in the area of southbound I-81 near the 6 Mile Marker. The incident reportedly involved four vehicles.
It was a chain reaction crash, as three vehicles, including a tractor trailer, a pickup truck, and an SUV were stopped in the left lane due to slowing traffic.
State police say a fourth vehicle struck the rear end of the pick-up truck, causing a chain reaction crash in which the other vehicles struck one another.
A woman in the SUV, identified as Brittney Mae Goodwin of Greensboro, NC was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other patients were transported to Meritus Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The collision is under investigation, Maryland State Police CRASH Team member M/T Jeremy Hite is the primary investigator.
The roadway was closed for approximately 6 hours during the investigation.
