MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The deadline to file federal taxes is Monday.   IRS Public Affairs Officer Lauren Winebrenner says don’t panic.

“My first tip is don’t panic. Rushing to file your tax return can result in errors.” Winebrenner said.  “Be sure if you haven’t filed yet, get all your documents in order. Use electronic filing, which can minimize errors, and visit irs.gov for tips.”

Winebrenner is based out of the Eastern Panhandle, but her office serves West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland.

She says taxpayers can call 844-545-5640 to call and find the nearest open facility and make an appointment for tax assistance or go to irs.gov

Winebrenner cautions that the hours and dates may vary and that some of the offices are not open all the time.

The office off Edwin Miller is currently closed, according to Winebrenner.

Free tax preparation assistance may be available for those who might qualify.  More information can be found at the website.

She was a guest on Panhandle Live April 7th. You can hear her interview in its entirety at Panhandle Live on Facebook and Spotify.
