MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A young man is dead and two people under arrest after a pedestrian accident south of Martinsburg.

Berkeley County Sheriff Nathan Harmon says it happened Sunday (February 06) around 7:20 in the evening.

Deputies were dispatched to a hit and run in the 2500 block of Winchester Avenue where they found a single man with serious injuries in the northbound lane of the road, which is also known as US-11.

Preliminary investigation revealed the 19-year-old had been in the travel lane at the time he was struck. He was transported from the scene and flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries approximately 4 hours later

The vehicle suspected to be involved was located in the 4300 block of Winchester Avenue about 3 and a half hours after the incident.

A white 1996 Ford Ranger was seized and two suspects arrested — Shawn Hines, 36 years of age
and Trinity Shumaker, 21 years of age, both of Martinsburg, WV.

Both suspects were incarcerated at the Eastern Regional Jail pending arraignment on two felony charges each, Hit and Run Involving Death and
Conspiracy.

The incident resulted in the total closure of the 2500-2600 block of Winchester Ave (US 11) for
approximately 2.5 hours while the scene was processed.
