MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Board of Education held its first meeting of the new year on Monday.

Long-time board member Todd Beckwith announced he would be stepping down from the board this coming June.

“During my 28 years on the board, I’ve had the privilege to work with 15 other board members and four superintendents,” Beckwith said, “I can say without hesitation that each of these individuals worked to do what was best for all students and for all aspects of the Berkeley County School System.”

Beckwith said providing a solid public education is one of the most important responsibilities of all citizens. He said he will continue serving Berkeley County Schools as well as church and other community endeavors on a volunteer basis.

Beckwith was first elected to the position in 1994.
