Halloween in Martinsburg Not Official – Up to Families

It’s not an official city event, but if families are out October 31st from 6 to 8 in the city of Martinsburg with trick-or-treaters, Mayor Harriet Johnson says the city will have extra patrols out to help keep them safe.

“We didn’t say it is an event of the city, but we’re not saying we’re not helping and patrolling with it and wishing everybody to be safe and careful.  But, really, with this pandemic, it is up to the families,” Mayor Johnson tells the Panhandle News Network.

The City typically provides increased police patrols during trick-or-treating in the city.

Johnson acknowledges the safety concerns during COVID-19 and says ultimately, each family should determine what is best for them.

Mayor Johnson says Martinsburg residents who want to hand out candy should turn on their porch lights.
