Virginia man found guilty of fatal Jefferson County DUI crash

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — A Virginia man has been found guilty in the January 21 hit and run death that killed a Maryland man who had stepped out of his truck on Route 340.

45-year-old Kenneth Lee of Strasburg, Virginia pleaded guilty to DUI causing death and leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

60-year-old William Snyder, Senior of Parksville Maryland had pulled his truck off to the side of the road near Halltown.

He was tightening the straps on his trailer when he was hit, according to The Journal.

“Kenneth Lee was intoxicated. He was under the influence of heroin, hit and killed him,” said Jefferson County Prosecutor Matt Harvey. “Judge Hammer gave him both sentences and ran them consecutively. So a 3-15 (years) on the DUI causing death and the leaving the scene of an accident resulting death is a 1-5. So he’s looking at not less than 4 and not more than 20 years.”

Harvey said he doesn’t believe the sentence is enough, but hopes it offers some resolution to Snyder’s loved ones.

“This guy (Lee) shoots up a bunch of heroin in the bathroom of one of the gas stations. Multiple witnesses (said) he was swerving all over the road and just in and out of the lanes. I hope that this does something for the family. I’m not sure that it will. But it’s the best that the system has the best is to take this man’s liberty for a minimum of four years.”

Harvey was a guest on Friday’s Panhandle Live.
