Killed Construction Worker Identified

The name of the construction worker killed Thursday after two vehicles crashed near the Hagerstown Police Department headquarters has been released. Brian Lee Gould, 68, of Hagerstown, was pronounced dead following the crash at West Washington Street and Burhans Boulevard. Gould was part of the Hagerstown-based Craig Paving construction crew repaving the police department’s parking lot. Worker Ryan Lee Wentzell, 36 of Knoxville, Md., was also struck, as was the construction vehicle driven by Michael Steven Lindsey, 46, of Hagerstown. Both were taken to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown to be treated for serious injuries. Driver Pamela Neteh-Ngweng Sama, 44, of Bethesda, Md., was also sent to Meritus. According to an HPD news release, the wreck happened at about 1:14 p.m. Thursday. The Infinity SUV driven by Neteh-Ngweng Sama and a Toyota Tundra pickup driven by Michael Douglas Hurd, 44, of Sharpsburg, collided at the intersection of West Washington Street and Burhans Boulevard. After the collision, the SUV went onto the south side of the police department parking lot and struck Gould and Wentzell before hitting the construction vehicle driven by Lindsey. Hurd was not injured. A medical examiner and an accident reconstructionist were sent to the scene and the area was closed to traffic for several hours. The crash remains under investigation, according to the release.
