MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center is expanding its surgical capacity with the addition of five new operating rooms.
According to Berkeley Medical Center President & CEO Anthony P. Zelenka, the new operating rooms range from 600 to 921 square feet making them much larger than traditional 380 to 450 square foot operating rooms. The larger size rooms will be able to accommodate the latest innovative technology.
“Two of our new ORs will support the latest minimally invasive robotic technology called the da Vinci Intuitive Xi,” Zelenka said. “The precision of this advanced Xi system enhances the technical skills of the surgeons allowing the patient to heal faster with fewer complications. This results in a quicker return to a normal family and work life schedule.” Zelenka expects to have the da Vinci robot in house and operational by early 2020.”
The third new operating room will be dedicated to orthopedic surgical procedures.
The fourth operating room will provide Berkeley Medical Center’s thoracic surgeon and future vascular surgeons with the latest technology for general minimally invasive surgical procedures.
Finally, the fifth new OR is the neurosurgery iSuite that houses the latest cutting edge neurosurgical technology.
